Mother of dismembered woman one step closer to justice

Jaren Lockhart

KENNER, LA. (WGNO) – “I would like to kill him. I dream about killing him all the time,” says Donna Lockhart the mother of murdered 22-year-old Jaren Lockhart.

Donna feels no better now than she did two years ago when she found out her 22-year-old daughter was brutally murdered.

“It seems like yesterday,” says Donna Lockhart.

Donna says her life ended when Jaren Lockhart’s body began washing up on Mississippi beaches piece by piece, yet she’s one step closer to justice. Terry Speaks, one of two accused of murdering Lockhart, arrived at Louis Armstrong International Airport this morning. Escorted by authorities Speaks was stone-faced and seemingly void of emotions. He had nothing to say to reporters.

As Donna Lockhart replays the video she calls Terry Speaks a “bastard” and can’t help but imagine her daughter’s final moments.

“The way she got murdered was they stabbed her in the heart before they cut her up in pieces,” says Donna Lockhart, “I dream about her death a lot.”

Terry Speaks and Margaret Sanchez

Authorities say Terry Speaks and Margaret Sanchez are the last known people to have seen Lockhart alive. The two were caught on surveillance video leaving a Bourbon Street club with Lockhart on the night of her disappearance. Sanchez has been under arrest since May. Speaks was extradited Wednesday morning from New York after completing a federal sentence on unrelated charges.

“I’m waiting to see him get convicted. I don’t want him to die. I don’t want him to get sentenced to death. I want them to spend the rest of their life in prison,” explains Donna Lockhart, “Both of them.”

Terry Speaks is scheduled to be arraigned Monday. There’s a tentative trial date set for January 12th. The two are set to be tried separately.
