KENNER, La. (WGNO) – Starting next summer, you can take a nonstop flight from MSY to Frankfurt, Germany.

Louisiana leaders celebrated the news at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport Thursday amidst German folk music.

The German airline, Condor, will offer flights to and from Frankfurt, Germany twice a week – Sundays and Wednesday — from May through September.

When we checked the website this morning, tickets for their first roundtrip flights cost around $1,200. Later flights were a little cheaper.

While this is great for world travelers, local leaders say this could give New Orleans tourism industry a boost.

These flights are expected to bring in nearly 10-thousand people to the city for summer 2017.

International travelers also tend to stay longer and spend more money during their visits.

“Travelling from Europe to New Orleans and likewise from New Orleans abroad will be much more convenient and efficient. This is a significant milestone as we look forward to welcoming the world for our tricentennial in 2018,” said Mayor Mitch Landrieu.

This is the first nonstop flight from New Orleans to Europe offered since the 1980s.

Condor will operate a Boeing 767-300ER equipped with reclining seats and in-flight entertainment at each of the aircraft’s 259 seats.

Flights to and from Germany offers at least one free bag, dinner and breakfast, a complimentary welcome drink, and a range of other cold and hot beverages to all its passengers.
