New Orleans makes ‘Neediest Cities’ list

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The city of New Orleans is in the top 10 of “2016’s Neediest Cities,” according to a WalletHub study.

WalletHub’s analysts compared the 150 largest cities in the United States across 21 criteria.

  3. Memphis, Tenn.
  4. Atlanta, Ga.
  5. Cleveland, Ohio
  6. Philadelphia, Penn.
  7. Jackson, Miss.
  8. Birmingham, Ala.
  9. New Orleans
  10. Fresno, Calif.

The metrics were divided into two groups: “Economic Well-Being Rank” and “Health & Safety Rank.”

New Orleans ranked 18th for Economic Well-Being and 6th for Health & Safety.

The smaller the city’s number on the ratings scale, the needier the city is.

New Orleans ranked second for the highest food insecurity rate, but didn’t crack the top five in child poverty, adult poverty, or highest homelessness rate.
