Grease fire at Fiorella’s turns into 3-alarm blaze

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – A grease fire at Fiorella’s in the French Quarter quickly turned into a 3-alarm blaze.

Thick, dark smoke began billowing from the restaurant on Decatur near Gov. Nicholls Street around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The NOFD says 75 firefighters helped get the fire under control just before 11 a.m.

Investigators believe the fire started in the kitchen. They say workers told them they were inside cooking and they could not get control of a grease fire.

WGNO asked the manager of Fiorella’s for a comment, but he declined at this time.

No injuries have been reported.

Police had to block streets off from bystanders, and many people were seen covering their faces. Below are some photos from the scene.
