NEW ORLEANS – On Monday morning, the New Orleans Fire Department responded to a one-alarm fire at the corner of Hope and St. Anthony Streets.
The first NOFD company arrived on the scene at 10:07 a.m. and immediately noticed that there were two dwellings on fire. This prompted a request for a second alarm at 10:09 a.m.
One residence was a two-story, three-unit, camel-back at 2630,2632 and 2630 ½ St. Anthony St.
The lightning strike penetrated a second story bedroom wall of the apartment at 2630 ½ St. Anthony St., fortunately the residents were not home at the time.
The second property involved is a two-story, single family dwelling, directly rear of the other, at 2050 Hope St. The strike entered through the roof of this home.
Sixteen NOFD units carrying forty-four Fire Operations personnel were dispatched to this incident, bringing it under control at 10:23 a.m.
According to NOFD, all residents were accounted for and had escaped safely.
The American Red Cross has been requested to assist the eight residents displaced by this incident.
