NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – A bicyclist was struck and killed Monday afternoon in a crash that involved a dump truck.
Police say the crash happened just after 1 p.m. near the intersection of Canal Street and South Broad Street. Both the bicyclist and a dump truck were traveling lake bound on Canal Street when the dump truck made a right turn onto North Broad striking the bicyclist, who police believe was in the far right lane.
The 52-year-old bicyclist died at the scene.
The 34-year-old truck driver was transported to the DWI compound for testing and questioning.
No charges will be filed at this point.
