NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a traffic fatality in the 9000 block of Chef Menteur Highway.
An initial report received late Sunday night showed a male victim of unknown age or gender was killed in the New Orleans East incident.
According to a follow-up release, the incident occurred around 10 p.m. when a red two-door coupe was traveling in the far-right eastbound lane on Chef Menteur Highway when it allegedly stopped to make a right turn at Cerise Avenue.
The report states that a white four-door sedan was also traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed on Chef Menteur Highway and attempted to pass the coupe along the right shoulder. The investigation revealed that the vehicles collided, at which time the sedan continued eastbound and flipped, coming to rest on Chef Menteur.
The sole occupant of the sedan was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene.
