NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A Jefferson Parish narcotics agent working with a DEA Task Force was shot while serving a warrant in the 5300 Block of Douglas Street Tuesday morning.

According to Col. John Fortunato of the JPSO, the agent identified as 35-year-old deputy Stephen C. Arnold was shot multiple times and is currently being treated at University Medical Center.

His condition is in critical condition.

The shooting happened around 6 a.m. near the corner of Douglas and Egania Streets.

The officer was taken via police vehicle to Chalmette General Hospital where he was transferred to an ambulance and taken to University Medical Center for further treatment.

The NOPD confirms that a male suspect is in custody. He is also being treated at University Medical Center. His condition is unknown.
