GULFPORT, Miss. (WGNO)– Handyman and locksmith Scott Andersen proves that creating art doesn’t have to be about functionality or profit. Scott’s only goal is to create every piece of work to the best of his ability.
This week, News with a Twist has featured a variety of craftsmen who use their hands to make everything from guitars to duck decoys – and now wood works.
“People don’t put the time and care into making a quality product anymore like they used to. That’s what I’m trying to do. I hope I achieved it,” said Andersen, who works out of a home studio.
The saying “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” couldn’t be more appropriate for Scott’s interpretation of folk art. He finds the wood for his creations often times in in his neighbors’ trash bins. He then lets the creative juices sink in before getting to work, sketching, carving and staining his master pieces.
