NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans issued parking instructions and reminders in advance of parades and events scheduled over the Labor Day Weekend of Friday, Sept. 4, 2015, through Monday, Sept. 7, 2015. The public is encouraged to be patient and prepared for heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the specified areas and to make transportation arrangements accordingly.
2015 Southern Decadence
Beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4, the Knights of Decadence Parade will line up at Elysian Fields Avenue near Washington Park. At 7:30 p.m., the parade will proceed on Elysian Fields Avenue to Decatur Street, turn right onto Decatur Street, right onto Canal Street, right onto Bourbon Street and proceed to Ursulines Street where the parade will disband.
On Saturday, Sept. 5 from 4 p.m. until midnight, the 800-1100 blocks of Bourbon Street will be closed between St. Ann and Governor Nichols Streets for the Southern Decadence Bourbon Street Extravaganza.
The Golden Lantern Kickoff Concert will be held on Sunday, Sept. 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. During this time, the 1100-1300 blocks of Royal Street will be closed between Ursulines Street and Esplanade Avenue.
Beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31, the Southern Decadence Grand Marshal Parade will begin forming at Chartres and Barracks Streets. At 2 p.m., the parade will begin at 1239 Royal Street and proceed on Royal Street to St. Louis Street, turn right onto St. Louis Street, right onto Rampart Street, right onto Toulouse Street, left on Burgundy Street, left on to St. Peter Street, right onto Rampart Street, right onto St. Ann Street, left on to Bourbon Street and then proceed to Dumaine Street where the parade will disband.
2015 Louisiana Seafood Festival
The 2015 Louisiana Seafood Festival will take place at the City Park Festival Grounds on Friday, Sept. 4 through Sunday, Sept. 6 from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. daily. The festival could draw 65,000 attendees over the course of the weekend, and heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic is expected in the area.
Parking enforcement personnel will be monitoring for illegal parking, including blocking hydrants, driveways and sidewalks, or parking within 20 feet of a crosswalk, intersection or stop signs. Motorists are also reminded to park in the direction of travel on one-way streets, and with the right wheel to the curb on two-way streets.
