MANDEVILLE – Police say the pedestrian struck and killed in Mandeville this morning was involved in a accident just moments before.
St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s office identified the victim as 52-year-old Gergory Discon, of Mandeville.
New reports from the MPD say before the crash that took his life, the victim crashed his vehicle into a raised median when a dog ran out in front of his car.
The victim’s car was towed due to damage.
A family member of the victim arrived to pick him up, but the victim realized some of his belongings were in the middle of the road.
The victim exited the vehicle, and began to gather his personal items from the street.
That is when Discon was struck from behind by a 2014 Mercedes-Benz sedan, driven by an unidentified woman.
Discon was pronounced dead on the scene.
The fatal collision occurred around 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of Kleber Street and the East Causeway Approach, according to the Mandeville Police Department.
Impairment is not thought to have been a factor, but a toxicology report on the driver has been ordered.
