Report: Rep. who ‘joked’ about stripper age and weight limits won’t apologize

BATON ROUGE, La. (WGNO) – The state representative who came under fire after proposing age and weight limits for strippers refuses to apologize.

The state House was discussing a bill Wednesday to raise the minimum age for strippers to 21.

During the discussion, state Rep. Kenneth Havard, R-Jackson, proposed an amendment to the bill that would have made it against the law for strippers to be older than 28 and weigh more than 160 pounds.

He pulled the amendment immediately after state Rep. Nancy Landry, R-Lafayette, said she was offended. He later said it was a joke.

But he told reporters this morning that he won’t apologize, even after the outrage that ensued on the House floor.

“I don’t know if I’ll ever apologize for being politically incorrect, it’s just not in my nature,” Havard told The Advocate. “Politically correctness, in my opinion has ruined the country, and it looks like it’s ruining the state now.”

House Speaker Taylor Barras called on Havard to apologize. Havard was absent from the Legislature today because he had a previously scheduled work event.
