NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Thanks to an outcry of support from the community after a baby goat was beheaded and its brother missing, a reward for information on the crime has been increased from $1,000 to $3,000.
Overnight Wednesday, January 28, someone reportedly beheaded a baby goat in Brechtel Park in Algiers.
The Louisiana SPCA believes an argument between the owner of the baby goat and a group of teens could have sparked the act. The owner told them that the teens were trying to “mess with the goats” behind the fence and when he told them to stop one teen did not respond kindly but eventually left the area.
The herd has been a familiar sight at Brechtel Park for the last seven months. The goats were brought to Brechtel Park to eat invasive species of plants.
NOPD and Louisiana SPCA Humane Law Enforcement currently have no viable leads as to the location of the missing goat named Jack or the remains of the decapitated goat named Calvin.
Anyone with information about this felony act of animal cruelty is urged to call the Louisiana SPCA at 504.368.5191 ext. 100.
