NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Just two days after being arrested in downtown New Orleans, eccentric real estate heir Robert Durst appeared before a Judge in Orleans Parish Criminal Court.

Durst waived extradition and agreed to return to Los Angeles to face new charges in the 15-year-old murder case of a female friend who occasionally acted as his spokesperson.

The new charges stem from a comment made by Durst during an interview for a six-part documentary series for HBO that wrapped up Sunday night.

During that interview, Durst can be heard saying that he “killed them all, of course.”

Durst is suspected of 3 murders, including the one that he was just arrested for, and has been acquitted in the one case that was taken to trial.

Durst was arrested at the J.W. Marriott Hotel on Saturday night by FBI Agents who say they believe Durst was planning to flee the country.

There is no word on when Durst will be transported to Los Angeles. The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office says Durst is jailed in ‘protective custody’ due to the high-profile nature of the case.
