COVINGTON, La (WGNO) – A Covington family has donated a bullet and stab resistant protective vest for a St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office K9 officer.
Covington residents Norma Henry and her daughter Noel Schultz donated the vest to the K9 Marko, who works with Deputy Jason Walden.
The vest was provided by a non-profit organization called Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., which provides vests for law enforcement dogs at a cost of $1,050 per donation.
Norma Henry had the vest inscribed with a message in honor of her late husband Lonnie Henry, a 33 year veteran of the New Orleans Police Department.
The Vested Interest nonprofit was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with this potentially life saving body armor for their four-legged K9 officers and has donated more than 2,000 in all 50 states so far, according to a Facebook post by the STPSO.
