SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) — The St. Tammany Sheriff’s office arrested two men in connection to the death of Nanette Me’Shell King, a woman from Bush who went missing last month. Sheriff Jack Strain said they believe King died of strangulation, but they’re waiting for the coroner to release an official report. Gary Lee Harris has been charged with second-degree murder. His brother, Ray Steven Harris has been charged with accessory after the fact to second-degree murder. Gary was Nanette King’s former boyfriend and the father of King’s 17-year-old daughter. Sheriff Strain said detectives immediately contacted the Harris brothers after King went missing, executing search warrants, conducting multiple interviews with them. He says the brothers went to great pains to destroy evidence, but detectives found enough to press charges. Detectives also said there were inconsistencies with statements and Ray Harris has admitted to his role in the crime. Gary Harris has been uncooperative. The Sheriff also revealed that detectives believe that on the afternoon of September 20, Nanette King met Gary Harris at his home in Bush, where she used to live with him. When she arrived, Gary Harris killed her and later took King’s body and Mitsubishi to Sun. Her remains and her badly burned car were found last week. Both men are being held in the St. Tammany Parish Jail. Gary Harris’s bond has been set at $800,000. Ray Harris’s bond has been set at $100,000.
