HAMMOND, La. (WGNO) – State Police are seeking a person of interest in the fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a skateboarder in Hammond.

Troopers say Erin Gerhard was riding his skateboard in the right, westbound lane of University Avenue about 10 p.m. May 11 when he was hit by a car. Troopers say the impact knocked him into the next lane, where he was hit by another car.

Troopers say both cars left the scene.

Gerhard died at the scene.

The person of interest is described as a black man driving a dark-colored, four-door sedan, possibly a Pontiac Grand Prix.

He was last seen at a gas station in the area shortly after the crash.
