NEW ORLEANS – A student was injured when shots rang out at a Gentilly charter school this afternoon.
The 14-year-old student is being treated at Children’s Hospital for a superficial wound. It’s unclear if it’s a gunshot wound.
Gunfire erupted around lunchtime at The Net Charter School in the 6600 block of Franklin Avenue while several students were outside, according to the NOPD.
Chief Michael Harrison said a dark-colored pickup truck with possibly tinted windows was in the area of the school. One of the occupants of the truck fired shots. The student who was injured was standing with a group of other students at the time.
One of the students in the group tested positive for gun residue, and another student at the school who was not in the group with the shooting victim had live ammunition.
Police are still investigating and searching for the vehicle and suspects.
Anyone with information is asked to call NOPD.
