WGNO

The New Orleans S&WB, among the fastest teams in the region!

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Of course, when your street is the one with the massive leak — or these days, sink hole — it can seem like forever before it’s fixed.  And there are a number of reasons for that.  But just remember this one thing: the guys on the job are among the fastest in the region.

Just like lumberjacks and firefighters, the men and women who work to keep the water flowing also have their own competition teams.  Tasks include sawing off middle sections of pipe and replacing them with a patch.

The New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board’s team is called the Water Dogz.  They took on more than 20 teams from around the region.  The competition was held during last month’s Texas Water 2016 regional conference and competition in Fort Worth.  During the event, the Water Dogz competed in events like collection systems, laboratory, process control, maintenance and safety.  They placed second overall in their division, with first place finishes in the maintenance and safety events.

Below is a link from another competition that shows the Water Dogz in action.

Most recently, some of the S&WB team members went to work on the huge sinkhole in the Uptown area last week.

Next, the Water Dogz compete in the nationals in September.  But they won’t have to go far.  The event will be held in New Orleans.
