UPDATE: On May 16, 2017, the case against Sadeghi was settled when he pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor count of negligent injuring, according to The Advocate. All other charges against Sadeghi were dropped.
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – A judge has dropped three video voyeurism charges against Dr. Alireza Sadeghi, leaving the prominent surgeon still facing two counts of video voyeurism and one count of rape, The New Orleans Advocate reports.
According to the report, Orleans Parish District Judge Laurie White said she dismissed three of the charges – charges that he videotaped three of his patients without their consent – because they allegedly took place at clinics or hospitals outside of New Orleans.
Sadeghi is accused of raping his wife in 2014, but Sadeghi has maintained he is innocent and that these charges stem from a bitter divorce.
Prosecutors said one of the illegal video recordings happened at Sadeghi’s Uptown practice, while the other involves illicit video of his wife.
Sadeghi’s trial is set for Aug. 22. He’s out of jail on a $400,000 bond.
