NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson claims that his estranged daughter and two grandchildren tried to kill him, according to court documents.
Benson and wife Gayle have been through an extensive court battle with Benson’s daughter, Renee Benson, and his two grandchildren, Rita Benson LeBlanc and Ryan LeBlanc.
Renee Benson and his two grandchildren challenged Tom Benson’s mental competency after the billionaire Saints and Pelicans owner disowned them and placed wife Gayle as the recipient of his fortune.
A judge ruled that Benson is competent to run his own affairs, and the Louisiana Supreme Court recently upheld that ruling.
In a deposition, Benson was asked why he was cutting off his family, to which he said, “Well, they tried to kill me for one thing.”
When the lawyer asked Benson to elaborate, Benson said “by picking on my wife and when I wasn’t feeling very good, they were very hostile.”
