AMITE, La. (WGNO) — Tangipahoa Parish is under a voluntary evacuation for areas along the Tangipahoa River and any other locations that were affected by last March’s flooding. The river is expected to crest sometime Saturday night or Sunday morning.
Other residents are asked by the parish to shelter in place. There is a dusk to dawn curfew in place as well.
Emergency workers have completed dozens of water rescues. Below are some photos from the Independence and Tickfaw area.
Also, Interstate 12 is closed from Airline Highway in East Baton Rouge Parish to Hwy 1077 in St. Tammany. The Louisiana DOTD suggests taking I-55 or I-59 north to I-20 for people wishing to drive west. Those traveling east are urged to take US 61 south to I-10. Also Hwy 190 is closed in both directions at the Washley Creek Bridge between LA 445 and LA 1077 in Tangipahoa Parish.
