NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – She’s No. 20 on the field, but No. 1 in the hearts of her fans.

“I am Abby’s number one fan. I’m so excited to be here, we came down from Philadelphia this morning. I’ve just kind of connected with her; she’s an awesome person,” says Tracey Moore.

Fan Stephen Lala lives in New Orleans shows off his signed soccer jersey and says he’s hoping to complete his autograph collection.

“When you’re a soccer fan you’re a soccer fan and it’s in your blood and you gotta support your nation and your country,” says Lala.

The Mandeville Soccer Club came for Tuesday’s practice, as did Abigail LeCompte from Gretna. She’s named after Abby Wambach.

“She’s fierce, she’s smart, she’s a trailblazer, a trendsetter, and she’s just awesome. So when I was pregnant, I knew my daughter needed a real powerful name and that’s why we named her that,” says her mother Corinne LeCompte, who grew up near Abby Wambach’s hometown of Rochester, NY.

About 30,000 tickets have been sold so far, leaving plenty of great seats still up for grabs.

“We want to have as many fans that watched them and got inspired by them and excited about them to come out and see them first-hand. What we’ve tried to do is go to places where we haven’t played in a long time or have never been — and New Orleans is a place we haven’t played in a long time, we’ve never played in the Superdome,” says Neil Buethe, the Director of Communications for U.S. Soccer.

And after the game — time for the soccer stars to enjoy the city. Superstar Wambach says she’s definitely trying a beignet.

“The culture here is amazing… to experience it. And I can say this now — tomorrow after the game is going to be an amazing party and no better place to be in the world than New Orleans,” Wambach said at a press conference.
