NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – It may be New Orleans most spirited society. It’s the New Orleans Rum Society. WGNO News with a Twist features reporter Wild Bill Wood invites you in for a drink. And the invitation is to come into the official home for the New Orleans Rum Society. That’s at the Palace Cafe.
The society hosts regular parties. Of course with rum. And it has regular rum events.
It makes sense for rum and the Palace Cafe. Rum is made from sugarcane. And sugarcane has been a big part of the Louisiana land and economy for the last 200 years.
Jesuit priests brought sugarcane to Louisiana back in 1751.
The Palace Cafe is located on Canal Street at the foot of the historic French Quarter. The Palace just had a big makeover. Wild Bill takes you inside for a look at what’s new.
What’s old is the what the building originally was. It’s the old Werlein’s Music Building.
The Palace is famous for its contemporary Creole menu.
Some standouts on the menu are Bananas Foster Waffles and Crabmeat Cheesecake for breakfast.
For dinner, Catfish Pecan and Creole Seasoned Filet.
And don’t forget dessert at Palace Cafe. White Chocolate Bread Pudding and Sweet Potato Pecan Pie are always classics.
