Average crawfish prices in Louisiana hit new season low

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — If you like crawfish, there is some good news to share about average prices this weekend.

Laney King, co-founder of The Crawfish App, said that crawfish prices are at the lowest point they have been this season. This comes one week after crawfish prices dipped to a season low.

The average price for live crawfish in Louisiana this week is $2.79 per pound and boiled crawfish will cost you around $4.99 per pound, King said.

Prices dropped by an average of 15 cents for boiled crawfish and 13 cents for live crawfish compared to last week.

King said, “after a very successful Mother’s Day weekend for both consumers and retailers, we saw a small drop in the average crawfish prices this week, making prices the lowest they’ve been all season long.”

She estimated that customers can get a 30 pound sack of live, medium to large size crawfish for around $85.

“Rumor has it that the amount of crawfish that farmers and fishermen are catching dropped this week, meaning supply is getting lower,” King said.

If that proves true, crawfish prices could go up in the near future.

King said they expect prices to go up next week, so this week is a good time to “get your boil on.”
