City of Gretna to hold public meeting for pedestrian improvement project

GRETNA, La. (WGNO) — Officials with the City of Gretna announced a public meeting regarding pedestrian improvements will be held on Monday, March 4.

City leaders said the State of Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development and its
contractor, Buck Town Contractors and Company, are starting downtown pedestrian improvements.

The improvements include new sidewalks, crosswalks and traffic signals.

The DOTD funded construction project is said to improve safety and access for pedestrians along 4th Street from Dolhonde Street to Huey P. Long Avenue, and on Huey P. Long Avenue from 4th to 5th Streets.

Leaders with the City of Gretna said the construction team will be working “as quickly as possible to minimize the disruption to Gretna neighbors and businesses.”

Some brief intersection closures at Derbigny and Dolhonde for excavation, new concrete panels and new traffic signal installations may occur.

Residents will be notified in advance of any specific closures, and detour signs will be placed to reroute traffic.

Anyone with questions or concerns can attend the public meeting on March 4 at 5:30 p.m. at the Gretna Cultural Center for the Arts.
