Crawfish prices take dip down for Mother’s Day

JEFFERSON, La. (WGNO) — Good news for moms if crawfish is what you want for Mother’s Day.

Mother’s Day weekend is one of the busiest weekends of the crawfish season, and this year the prices are lower.

Diamonds and flowers are nice but this Mother’s Day, your mom may want more spice.

“We got what you want, we got plenty of crawfish, we want all mothers to come see us,” said Managing Partner at Michael’s Seafood Karlos “Los” Atkinson.

Plenty of spice, and the price is right.

“Now that we are starting to get rain, the prices are coming down,” Atkinson said.

Prices were extremely high at the start of this crawfish season because of last year’s drought. The drought caused a limited supply of crawfish this year.

Typically for Mother’s Day, crawfish prices are high, but over at Michael’s Seafood, they’re seeing the lowest prices all season. Live crawfish costs $2.39 a pound, and boiled crawfish costs $3.29 a pound, but if you get 10 or more pounds, then it will cost $2.99 a pound.

Carol Harrell is a great-grandmother, and she thinks crawfish is a great Mother’s Day gift.

“A good, family get-together,” she said.

Her husband, Dave Harrell said, “Every holiday we treat her very well because we love her.”

With cheaper prices that means even more love for Mom.

“Well it brings families together,” Atkinson said.
