HARVEY, La. (WGNO) — June 27 is recognized as National HIV Testing Day and to celebrate, the Infectious Disease Department at DePaul Community Health Center (DCHC) is inviting the public to get tested.

Louisiana residents will have the opportunity to receive free rapid HIV testing along with their results the same day.

“By offering free, rapid HIV testing and educational resources, we aim to promote awareness and prevention, ultimately reducing the spread of HIV,” said President & CEO of DePaul Community Health Centers Michael G. Griffin, MSPH, DSc, FACHE.

DCHC officials said attendees will learn about PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis), the latest HIV statistics and comprehensive sexual health services that they offer. Home HIV tests will also be available.

The day is an annual celebration to encourage individuals of all ages to “Take the Test, Take Control” as early detection through testing is crucial to effective treatment and prevention of HIV.

The event is set for Thursday, June 27, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at DCHC’s Harvey Clinic 1629 Westbank Expressway in Harvey.
