JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Jefferson Parish residents can expect changes to the parish’s recycling drop-off sites starting Saturday, July 6.

Parish officials said the East Bank recycling drop-off site will relocate from the parking lot of the Joseph S. Yenni Building at 1221 Elmwood Park Blvd. to the Republic Service’s Materials Recovery Facility at 804 L&A Road starting on Saturday.

In addition to a new East Bank location, parish leaders announced that the hours for both the East Bank and West Bank recycling drop-off sites will change to 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

According to Jefferson Parish Public Works Director Mark Drewes, the new hours will allow workers to avoid excessive heat and “minimize the initial drop-off wait time.”

Drewes also said in a news release that the relocation of the East Bank drop-off site will facilitate a greener process by reducing emissions.

Parish officials noted that REALCYCLE will offer its services to the East Bank site, and Glass Half Full will offer services to the West Bank site at 6440 Lapalco Blvd.

Residents can bring glass bottles, glass jars, cardboard, aluminum cans, tin cans, steel cans, plastic water bottles, plastic soda bottles, plastic milk containers, plastic juice containers, plastic shampoo containers and detergent containers to their respective sites to be recycled.

Parish leaders said residents wanting to participate should follow these guidelines:

  • Only recycle items on the list.
  • Only recycle clean items.
  • Crush cans and break down boxes to make more space in your bin.
  • Put recyclable materials directly into the bin. Do not bag them.

Parish officials said residents should also bring a utility bill or driver’s license to show proof of residency for their recyclables to be accepted.
