Louisiana runners compete in LCMC Health St. Patrick’s Day Classic

METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) — The luck of the Irish made its way to Metairie Road for the 10th annual LCMC Health St. Patrick’s Day Classic Race.

Even with scattered showers throughout the morning, race director Eric Stuart said there was no doubt in his mind people would show up to compete.

“They know there is a race, they are not afraid of getting wet and they want to go. So, they are getting ready, staying dry, waiting to go. We’re going to get wet, but we are going to have a good time while doing it,” said Stuart.

Runners, walkers and a few leprechauns from all over Louisiana competed in the two-mile fun run for a chance to qualify for the Crescent City Classic. Rosanna Marks said she loves running and prepping for races helps a lot.

“I’ve done a half marathon before and it’s really just about pushing my limits. Running as many mornings as I can and being healthy,” said Marks.

With the St. Patrick’s Day spirit and celebrating a birthday, one runner says she is running in the rain with the ones she loves the most.

“There is nothing better. The only thing that would be better is if my family was here, but these guys are my family too. It’s just exciting. It just kind of makes it all worthwhile,” said the runner.

Yet it’s more than just a race. Marks explained everyone is running for a great cause as the race donates to several local charities.

“I just love the Crescent City, the whole organization. I’ve done the Crescent City Classic before and giving back to the community is really important to me,” said Marks.

Westwego resident Bryan White, Jr. was the top male finisher with a time of nine minutes and 30 seconds. Laura Doody of New Orleans was the top female with a time of 10 minutes and 45 seconds.

The Crescent City Classic 10k takes place on Saturday, March 30.
