METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) — The Metairie Road St. Patrick’s Day Parade has been rescheduled for April amid the threat of severe weather this Sunday.
Stormy weather is expected to affect our area this St. Patrick’s Day. That’s why the parade has been moved to 12 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, according to Jefferson Parish leaders.
“I don’t think people want to get a shower in the rain, especially when you’re throwing things and maybe to know one. I just don’t want to throw a parade out on the street that doesn’t meet our standards,” said the president and captain of the parade, Dan Civello.
Civello said the purchasing of produce also played a significant factor in rescheduling the parade.
“If we would have waited until tomorrow or Sunday morning, the vegetables would have been gone. So, they can save a substantial amount of money by canceling the orders,” said Civello.
The parish reported the St. Patrick’s Day Classic will happen this Sunday, but the start time has been moved to 9 a.m.
“We are thankful for the Jefferson Parish leaders who worked with us to reschedule the parade to ensure riders and spectators have a safe and fun experience,” said Civello. “We look forward to seeing everyone on the route on April 7th!”
There’s still a handful of other fun St. Patrick’s Day events happening in the area this Sunday to look forward to.
