METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) — The Chick-fil-A along Airline Highway is officially open, something Metairie resident Robert Miner has been waiting for.
“Kind of interesting because of the setup and the inside but they helped me pretty quickly. They brought the food out to the table. I told them I’d be outdoors. They swung by and picked up the tray and everything for me,” said Miner.
It’s not the only Chick-fil-A in Jefferson Parish, but local franchise owner Ralph Bartels says he wanted to fill a gap on the map.
“When you looked at the map, it just made sense from a geographic perspective. Then we looked at the population in the area. The density made sense. The Metairie community and Jefferson Parish welcomed us in with open arms,” said Bartels.
With new buildings come new worries. Some neighbors predict the popular chain will back up traffic, considering how close it is to a school.
Miner says he doesn’t mind.
“Traffic is bad already with that school on the corner. So, I am concerned but I just won’t leave my house. And the Chick-fil-A is rolling, I don’t know it may be a downtime for them, ” said Metairie resident Marie St. Martin.
“It could be, but it depends on the individuals at the time of driving and how good of a mood they are in when they are driving,” said Miner.
Bartel says he foresaw community concerns and planned accordingly to keep cars moving.
“We have two full lanes of drive-thrus that go around the property. We are also launching with mobile through and that is where our guest can place their order on the app and drive through the drive-thru to pick their food up from us,” said Bartels.
