Metairie house fire leaves one dead, one injured

METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) — A man is dead and another injured following a fire at a Metairie home on Wednesday, March 20.

Around 6:30 a.m. both the Jefferson Parish Fire Department and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the call of a fire in the  3400 block of Lausat Street.

When they arrived, JPFD and JPSO officials said they observed active flames at the location.

Firefighters said they were able to put the flames out but discovered an unresponsive man in the bedroom of the home.

Officials say the man was pronounced dead on the scene while a second man was found outside the home and taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries suffered during the fire.

The Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity after an autopsy is done and the family is notified.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
