LAFOURCHE PARISH, La. (WGNO) — The body of a man who went missing after crashing his vehicle in Assumption Parish has been located in Lafourche Parish.
According to the Louisiana State Police, on March 8, deputies with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office were alerted about a body found in Bayou Lafourche near the 1800 block of Louisiana Highway 308.
Responding deputies said they were able to recover the body and identify the person as 64-year-old Gilbert Bunch Jr., from White Castle.
An investigation revealed Bunch’s body was found about six miles south of where he originally crashed his vehicle on March 2.
According to troopers, Bunch and a passenger were headed east on Louisiana Highway 389 in a Mercury Grand Marquis when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the corner of Louisiana Highway 1, ran off the road and into Bayou Lafourche.
Troopers said the passenger was able to get out and swim to the bank, but Bunch was last seen in the water.
The crash remains under investigation.
