NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Gates are now open for the 49th annual New Orleans Greek Festival along Bayou St. John and on the Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral grounds. WGNO’s Kenny Lopez shows us how this fun fest attracts visitors all wanting a taste of Greek culture.
“It is important to us because our culture is near and dear to our hearts. It is quite emotional to see that we all come together for a common reason, just letting people come and have fun and experience Greece on the Bayou,” said Alexandra Megilligan with the New Orleans Festival Committee.
Some foods you can expect to eat at Greek Fest are goat burgers, lamb, baklava sundaes, traditional Greek pastries and more.
They will even have specialty Greek cocktails using Ouzo, which is a dry anise-flavored aperitif that is widely consumed in Greece.
The New Orleans Greek Festival runs Friday, May 24, through Sunday, May 26. The festival will go on Friday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
