NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — In a city that thrives off of food, it’s no surprise that restaurants have their own week in New Orleans.
From June 17 to June 23, participating restaurants across the city will be curating special menus for a special pricem, and Brigsten’s is one of them.
Brigsten’s is an institution in New Orleans. Chef and Owner Frank Brigsten says they’ve been in the Riverbend area of New Orleans for the last 38 years. Restaurant Week gives him an opportunity to get creative with his traditional Creole fare.
“For instance, we have a complete menu of vegan choices. If you’re vegan or vegetarian, we got you,” said Frank.
This year, diners will get a three-course dinner for $56.
Options for the first course include vegan creole okra gumbo, coconut shrimp bisque with garlic and ginger or a creole tomato salad with Vidalia onions, ricotta salata and pesto balsamic vinaigrette.
For the second course, there will be organic roast chicken pontalba with ham, mushrooms, roasted potatoes and bearnaise. A second option includes grilled redfish with smoked corn sauce, chipotle, black bean salsa and avocado sour cream. If neither of those suits your fancy, perhaps an eggplant pirogue with smoked mushroom boudin and a coconut ginger sauce.
For dessert — there are four options: lemon blueberry creme brulee, pina colada bread pudding, pecan pie with caramel sauce or fruit ambrosia with oranges, pineapple, banana and coconut.
“Well, I am so proud to be a restaurateur here in New Orleans, which is really America’s greatest food city,” said Frank. “And when I put on this white jacket every day, I’ve put on 300 years of Creole tradition, and I feel that I am part of a continuum of Creole chefs. And my role today at this stage of my life and career is to pass it on and keep it going.”
