New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell heads to Las Vegas for Super Bowl Handoff

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — New Orleans Mayor Latoya Cantrell is heading to Las Vegas to take part in the NFL’s Super Bowl Handoff.

According to city leaders, Cantrell will join a delegation of state and city officials to participate in the handoff ceremony on Feb. 12. The event will include host committees from Las Vegas and New Orleans following the game.

While in Las Vegas, the city reports Cantrell will learn the playbook for all pre-game measures ahead of Super Bowl LIX.

Super Bowl LIX will mark the city’s 11th time hosting the game and the eighth time happening at the Caesars Superdome.

Joining Cantrell on the trip are New Orleans Saints and Pelicans Owner Gayle Benson, Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser, Super Bowl LIX Host Committee Chair Marcus Brown, other state and city officials, sports and tourism leaders and public safety personnel.

The group will attend a series of meetings and events discussing future committees, the Louisiana State Police 2024 Annual Briefing, supplier diversity, Superbowl decor, budget and audit to ensure the City of New Orleans is prepared to host the game in 2025.

Cantrell will return to the city in time to participate in the Lundi Gras celebration as well as a ceremony in Spanish Plaza with the kings and queens of Zulu and Rex.
