NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The City of New Orleans is hosting an event to offer financial assistance to renters at risk of water or electric disconnection.
City officials said the Mayor’s Office of Housing Policy and Community Development will put on the event at the Joe Brown Park Recreational Center on April 11 and April 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
They said the outreach event is for eligible renters who have applied for rental assistance through the city but haven’t received utility assistance.
According to a news release, “Utility assistance will be fast-tracked for eligible renters that have past due balances and have not received prior assistance.”
City officials said city employees, translators and representatives from the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans will be at the event to help residents with the application process.
They also said eligible renters must provide their utility account number, as payments will be made to the utility provider.
To apply, residents should bring the following:
- A form of identification
- Proof of address and or current lease
- Proof of current household income
- Documentation evidencing past due utility bills
