NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — One person is dead and another injured after a crash in the Gentilly area on Monday, Sept. 25, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
Around 8:44 a.m., officers say they responded to the single-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 East at Louisa Street where they found one vehicle overturned.
Through investigation, detectives learned a man and woman were headed east on Interstate 10 when the woman lost control of the vehicle and hit the left guard rail. The collision caused her to swerve across all lanes of traffic, hit the right guard rail and flip over.
The 27-year-old woman was pronounced dead on the scene. The male passenger was taken to a hospital for treatment, but his condition was not released.
Due to the crash, three eastbound lanes are shut down with delays backed up to the Interstate 10 and 610 split. Drivers are advised to find an alternate route during their commute.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the woman’s identity after an autopsy is done and the family is notified.
Anyone with additional information on the crash is asked to call Traffic Fatality Investigator Jason Naquin at (504)-658-6205.
