NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A family of three has been displaced after a fire near Bayou St. John on Saturday, July 6.

The New Orleans Fire Department reported crews responded to a home at 607 N. Salcedo St. around 9 p.m., where they found a garage on fire under an apartment.

NOFD officials said the fire began spreading to the apartment above the garage and near the home next door.

According to the NOFD, the family living inside the home safely escaped before firefighters arrived.

NOFD officials said the family told crews they were getting ready to eat upstairs when they heard a “boom.” The family then went to investigate and found the fire in the garage before evacuating.

The NOFD reported that 18 fire trucks carrying 45 firefighters were used to extinguish the fire, and it was under control by 9:41 p.m.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
