NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Four people were rescued following a two-alarm fire in the Seventh Ward on Sunday, May 19, according to the New Orleans Fire Department.
At 3:48 p.m., firefighters were called to the scene of a fire in the 1500 block of Marais Street.
Upon arrival at 3:53 p.m., NOFD officials found an abandoned building engulfed in flames and extending to the back of a three-unit camel-back home between Marais and Columbus streets.
NOFD firefighters helped four residents evacuate the property.
Minutes later, at 3:59 p.m., NOFD officials called for a second alarm to help keep the fire from taking over the three-unit residence.
In total, 15 NOFD units carrying 42 firefighters were able to get the fire under control by 4:33 p.m.
The residents were treated on the scene for smoke inhalation by NOLA EMS, but no injuries were reported. The American Red Cross arrived on the scene to assist the 12 displaced residents.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
