NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — After 24 hours of donations being made to nonprofit organizations across the Greater New Orleans area, GiveNOLA Officials announced a “record-breaking” total for the 11th annual event.

On Tuesday, May 7, 1,004 organizations were able to generate over $7.3 million in donations. GiveNOLA officials said the number exceeds the total made by 951 nonprofits in 2023.

GiveNOLA officials said the day provides support for organizations through 13 parishes, including Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, Lafourche, Terrebonne, Assumption, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, Tangipahoa and Washington parishes.

They add that the participating organizations aim their work towards issues such as:

  • Art and culture
  • Animal welfare
  • Community improvement
  • Education, environment
  • Health, housing
  • Human services
  • Public safety and crime prevention
  • Youth development

Participants of the event said the results so far are a reminder that the region is filled with good people.

“I am thankful to all who took the time to give and grateful for their generosity. And none of this would be possible without our amazing sponsors, especially our hosting sponsor Baptist Community Ministries and Entergy, who powers GiveNOLA Day. I look forward to continuing this success in 2025,” said President and CEO of the Greater New Orleans Foundation Andy Kopplin.

President and CEO of Baptist Community Ministries Inman Houston said this time of the year giving can be slow.

“Creatively the Greater New Orleans Foundation has come up with an initiative to give a boost to the nonprofits in our community, and we at BCM are thrilled to be a part of it,” said Houston.

GiveNOLA officials said in total, since its inception, including 2024, the event has raised more than $64.3 million for regional nonprofits with the majority of them being gifts of $100 or less.

Throughout the day, organizations were able to compete for cash rewards. The winners are:
