NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Gentilly community is celebrating the opening of a new business.

Harbor Freight opened its doors Tuesday morning, on June 25. The business is housed in what was once the old Winn-Dixie at 4600 Chef Highway.

New Orleans Councilmember Eugene Green was at the location for the grand opening and said the store would “greatly benefit the area.”

“They’ve enhanced the building. That’s good for the economy. They’re putting people to work. That’s also good for the economy. It’s also good for the neighborhood that they don’t have to see a vacant and abandoned building every time they drive to get on the interstate. So, all around, this is a good investment for our city,” said Green.

Nationally, there are more than 1,500 Harbor Freight locations.
