Funeral arrangements announced for New Orleans musician killed in hit-and-run

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Funeral arrangements have been announced for Kerry “Fatman” Hunter, who was the victim of a fatal hit-and-run crash on Mardi Gras Day.

Around 12 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 13, New Orleans Police Department officers said they responded to the call of a crash in the Seventh Ward at the corner of North Claiborne and Elysian Fields avenues.

Upon arrival, officers learned that a pedestrian, 53-year-old Hunter, was hit by a vehicle headed west on North Claiborne Avenue.

Hunter was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries, according to police.

NOPD officers later identified the driver as 21-year-old Jeremy Lindsey. He was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide and hit-and-run driving.

Hunter was a musician and member of The New Orleans Nightcrawlers brass band that won a Grammy Award in 2021.

A public viewing will be held Friday, Feb. 23 at Charbonnet Funeral Home from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held on Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Mahalia Jackson Theater.

The viewing starts at 9 a.m. and the celebration will start at 10 a.m., according to Hunter’s family.
