NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)— The Orleans Parish Coroner has identified the man who was found dead on the side of a Central City road on Wednesday.

According to the coroner, 29-year-old Andrew Lewis died of a gunshot wound and was found unresponsive at the intersection of Bolivar Avenue and Clio Street around 5:15 p.m.

According to the NOPD Major Offense Log released Thursday morning, an unknown suspect was driving in the area when they exited the vehicle and fired multiple shots at the victim, and then ran away.

The victim, later revealed to be a Lewis, was declared dead at the scene.

Details regarding a suspect and motive were unavailable. The case has been classified as a homicide.

The victim’s identity will be released pending an autopsy by the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office.

Police remained at the scene into the evening as investigators collected information. Anyone with any information is urged to contact NOPD.
