Murder mystery board game ‘Clue’ comes to life on stage at New Orleans’ Saenger Theatre

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The popular board game “Clue” is coming to life at the Saenger Theatre. The live show is a whodunit murder mystery that will leave fans on the edge of their seats.

Students ages 8 through 16 who are part of the Uptown Music Theatre Camp are getting “clues” in stage performance from a star in the new live-action show “Clue.”

“It helps kids learn about who they are and discover themselves and helps them work on communication skills and get out of their comfort zones. A lot of them are intellectual kids, but they aren’t out of their shells yet,” said Director of Uptown Music Theatre Matthew Carroll.

They’re emerging with helpful hints from a Broadway pro, Mary McNulty, who’s trained to play all the female characters in the first national tour of “Clue” based on the murder mystery board game and movie.

“In the show you are getting all your classical lines, all the board game elements, but live in front of you on-stage as you watch the chaos unfold,” said McNulty.

McNulty went on to say, “It is a fast one. It doesn’t stop. It just keeps going and going and it is a wild ride.”

She said that something really stands out about this whodunit mystery.

“Unlike other shows, when characters will leave the stage and come back, in this one everyone’s there for the whole time on-stage which brings a unique element,” she said.

Some “clues” she’s leaving with the students at Uptown Music Theatre are, “be kind, be generous and be willing to learn and listen.”

As for who killed who in the play? She’s not saying. So, you’re going to have to solve that and gather the evidence on your own by attending the show.

“Clue” is playing at the Saenger Theatre through Sunday, June 23. For more information about Uptown Music Theatre programs, visit the Uptown Music Theatre website.
