New Orleans National Guard unit deploys to Poland, Baltic states

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — June 1 marked the beginning of deployment for 80 Guardsmen of the New Orleans-based Louisiana National Guard.

The 139th Regional Support Group held a deployment Ceremony in the Guardsmen’s honor at the Capital on Baronne.

The unit will embark on a mission to Poland and the Baltic states, including pre-mobilization training at Fort Cavazos, Texas.

National Guard officials said the one-year deployment is a mission to enhance security and stability in the Baltic region and will underscore their commitment and dedication to national and international security.

“These Guard members are part of the one percent. This is the one percent that enables democracy,” said Brig. General Thomas Friloux, adjutant general of the LANG.

The deployment will mark the group’s second over mission since the Sept. 11 attacks.

“These dedicated men and women, Soldiers of the Louisiana National Guard, are the best Louisiana has to offer. They’ve spent countless hours on training and preparation for this deployment,” said 139th Regional Support Group Commander Col. Bobby Lee.

In the past, the 139th Regional Support Group played a “vital” role in state emergency operations demonstrating their versatility and dedication to state and national duties.
