NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department welcomed its newest recruit class on Monday, June 17.

NOPD leaders said Recruit Class 202 attended an event at the NOPD Training and Education Academy before undergoing 27 weeks of academy-based training.

The class, comprised of 11 men and five women, was welcomed by Deputy Superintendent Jonette Williams, City of New Orleans Director of Public Safety and Homeland Security John Thomas and New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation President and CEO Melanie Talia.

NOPD leaders said the class includes men and women from Louisiana, Florida and New Jersey. Four recruits are bilingual, and two recruits have military experience.
