New Orleans residents, visitors react to Donald Trump’s attempted assassination

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Reactions are pouring in from around the nation following Saturday’s attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. In New Orleans, residents and visitors are still processing the news.

“I was a little shocked,” said Chimene Lautenslager. “I just, I cannot believe that this is where we’ve come to, and it’s kind of sad. It’s sad.”

“A little shock. Yes. It’s bad. It’s really, I don’t know what else to say. It’s terrible. It’s just not good at all.”

While some people were searching for the right words, others were not necessarily surprised.

“Well, I was in shock, but, not really, because I think we need to ban AR-15s and automatic weapons,” said Nancy Moore. “This is a good case and point that you aren’t safe everywhere and maybe this will elevate the discussion.”

Since the shooting, many have expressed concern over major security failures.

“When I was reading about it last night, there had to have been very big security flaws that someone is going to have to pay for and I’m not into conspiracy theories, but it’s kind of odd that he was so close,” said Lautenslager.

Congress is now demanding answers, launching multiple investigations into the incident.

“Even though that we found out the information about the shooter and he was more on the Republican side, I still feel like the Democrats are going to get blamed for it. And even if there’s proof that that’s not the case, it’s going to cause a bigger divide than what we’ve already had,” said Lautenslager.
