NOLA Black Wall Street to give away free car to local graduating senior

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A local organization, NOLA Black Wall Street, wants to reward a graduating senior in the area for staying focused, working hard and getting their diploma with a new car!

NOLA Black Wall Street is jumpstarting the road to success for local graduating seniors.

“NOLA Black Wall Street wants to reward the seniors that are actually getting it right and help them with transportation and going to college,” said Founder of NOLA Black Wall Street Goldie Gasper.

This weekend, the organization is giving away a car to a graduating senior for the second year in a row.

“A lot of times, when you graduate from high school, you want a car. Though, unfortunately, not all parents can do that financially. So, we just want to help seniors get to college back and forth and we don’t want them to be missing classes because they can’t get there,” said Gasper.

She went on to say, “Last year, we all cried. I didn’t expect the flood of emotions, but the winner was a valedictorian and got a scholarship to Xavier University. So, she earned that car.”

With the giveaway, NOLA Black Wall Street is proving it is a pillar in the community.

“We’re here to help rebuild the economic infrastructure of Black-owned businesses. This organization was put into place to help catapult Black-owned businesses,” she said.

Some of the connections they’ve made are with Push Start Motors, which is sponsoring the car giveaway, and Youth Day NOLA, which is providing a day of fun with other special giveaways this weekend.

“What I love is a lot of Black business owners always have my back,” said Gasper.

Having each other’s back while helping to keep the youth on track.

“This is what you do it for to see the impact on other people. I’ll probably cry again for sure. Making it easier for graduating seniors to drive off to college,” she said.

The car giveaway and Youth Day NOLA event will take place Saturday at St. Roch Park at 1830 St. Roch Ave. from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will be giveaways every 30 minutes that include a free music instrument with lessons, a nail set and a photo shoot. The event will also include face painting, a double Dutch competition, a spacewalk, food, music and more.

The graduating senior who wins the car will be selected raffle-style. You can sign up to enter to win by Thursday, June 20, on NOLA Black Wall Street’s website.
